Mycoplasma는 배양세포나 배지 등의 오염균으로 세포가 mycoplasma에 감염되면 Transfection 효율 저하, 세포 대사 및 성장저해, 세포모양 변형, 단백질 및 유전자 발현 변화1) 등 다양한 세포의 변화, 이상을 야기한다.
Mycoplasma는?
- 자가 증식능력을 가진 매우 작은 (0.2 μm ~ 0.8μm) 크기의 원핵생물로 일반적인 필터로 제거할 수 없음.
- 세포벽이 없어 페니실린 계열 항생물질은 예방에 효과 없음.
- 세포막의 바깥표면에 존재, 세포와 공존하여 광학 현미경으로 관찰이 불가능하여 오염여부를 확인하기 어려움
